Notes on the work:

The Czech musician Milena Dolinová (1859? - 1891) has collected poems and popular songs throughout Central Europe. Her sketches, which have remained hidden to this day in the attic of a house in north-eastern Bohemia, have served as a basis for the realization of compositions played at music shows and village festivals, often nationalist by nature and aiming at the authority of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Her scores - which only indicate melody and harmony - form an amazing ensemble of folk music from Bohemia, Moravia, Silesia, Slovakia, Moldavia, Transylvania, Romania and Hungary. Thus, in Dolinová’s work, the influence of the typical characteristics of a given music creates the impression of a synthesis of Slavic, Hungarian, Gypsy and Jewish music.

The essence of Kryštof Mařatka’s work rests on the creation of arrangements for various ensembles the instrumentation of which typifies folk music: strings, clarinet, cimbalom, double bass, while respecting the style and nature of the musical language.
