Major piece from the universe of the night, the trio Anthology of Dreams is inspired by the state of sleep that makes our unconscious “speak”, escaping all control and will. Some of the work’s composition methods are based on the same “surreal” characteristics specific to dreams, among which for example unpredictability or returns of the same passages with each time slightly different proceedings, linked to new sound materials with each new appearance.
Several varied parameters and playing techniques are developed in the work to emphasize the oneiric character of the score: the inequality of the durations between the movements, the repetition of the 2nd movement in the 3rd movement, the enrichment of piano’s sound by occasional playing directly on the strings, playing with a large rubber mute, pizzicati of crossed strings in the violoncello, several simultaneous tempi between the instruments and many others...
